The Santa Maria Zobenigo church in Venice, Italy was named for the family who founded the church in the 9th century whose name was Jubanico. The name Santa Maria Zobenigo is the one usually used by the people of Venice, probably because it is situated on the Campo Santa Maria Zobenigo which can be found just west of the Piazza San Marco in Venice.
The more religious title of the church is the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Giglio, which means Saint Mary of the Lily - which refers to the Annunciation when Gabriel gave Mary the flower, which was believed to be a lily.
