The sudden rise of land from the Lyttelton Harbour is evident in this scenic picture of Banks Peninsula on the South Island of New Zealand, a harbour created by the crater of an ancient volcano.
Lyttelton Harbour is one of two long reaching harbours on the Banks Peninsula, the other being scenic Akaroa Harbour on the southern side of the peninsula. Visitors can enjoy the sights of the peninsula by taking the scenic, albeit windy, country roads that criss-cross the interesting landscape.
