Upon Signal Hill in St. John's, Newfoundland, a National Historic Site is open to visitors to explore, see the military history and watch the performances done by the Signal Hill Tattoo. The scenery of the vast open sea is stunning from Signal Hill as well as the view of St. John's, Newfoundland.Signal Hill was a place where the main reception of the first transatlantic wireless signals could be transmitted and a main harbour to watch for any ships heading in to do battle with St. John's, Newfoundland. It was a very strategically placed site and it soon became the location of harbour defences that went on from about the 18th century and continued until the Second World War.Visitors to the Signal Hill National Historic Site can now enjoy drills and military displays by the Signal Hill Tattoo which are crowd pleasers for any age.
