The little village of Siresa is situated just to the north of Hecho in the Valle de Hecho in the province of Huesca, Aragon in Spain, and the imposing San Pedro Church of Siresa has welcomed pilgrims, travelling the Camino de Santiago, throughout the centuries. The original San Pedro monastery was built in 833 during the Carolingian Dynasty (732-843) and was the first monastery in Aragon, Spain. The Iglesia de San Pedro de Siresa seen today was built around the monastery in the 11th century. Designed in the shape of a cross, the San Pedro Church of Siresa in Aragon, Spain has a quite plain, interior as befits an ancient monastery. The king of Aragon, Alfonso el Batallador (the Battler), who reigned from 1104 until his death in 1134, was baptized and received his education in the monastery of San Pedro of Siresa in Aragon. The church is open all year and would certainly be worth a visit when travelling in the province of Huesca in Aragon, Spain. ... continue below the picture...
