The Sky Tower that can be seen in this view is a telecommunications tower with two observation decks in Auckland City. It is 328 metres high, and is actually the tallest free standing structure in the Southern Hemisphere. It is easily recognizable to both residents of Auckland and to tourists and it is often used in advertising campaigns for New Zealand because it is such a recognizable structure. It is also connected to the SKYCITY Auckland Casino Group.
Aside from being a telecommunications tower, it also contains several restaurants, two observation decks, and SkyJump, which is like bungy jumping, and attracts hundreds of visitors a year. During sunset, the Sky Tower and skyscrapers of downtown Auckland provide a beautiful cityscape silhouette.
Waitemata Harbour, which borders the main CBD of the city, provides the main shipping access to the sea from Auckland, and connects the city's main port and the Auckland waterfront to the Pacific Ocean. ... continue below the picture...
