The majestic Splendid Hotel in Cannes, on the Riviera, France is indeed well named. It has been renovated recently, is a comfortable, and, for Cannes, a moderately priced hotel. The Splendid Hotel is family run and it shows, with the subtle touches throughout the rooms.Oddly enough the site of the Splendid Hotel, overlooking the Old Port of Cannes on the Cote d'Azur in France, began life as a soap factory. In 1758, the abbot of Lerins wanted a chapel built on the donated Marina land but for some reason this dream ended in 1764 with an unfinished building. In 1771, Mr.J.F. Bournin, a Grasse trader, purchased the building and opened a soap factory.After that, the site was also a store, then an inn, and finally in 1871 the Hotel Splendid in Cannes was opened. Close to Le Suquet, the old town of Cannes and the Forville Market, the Hotel Splendid rooms are furnished with period furniture and art, and the clientele often include actors, musicians and other interesting celebrities. ... continue below the picture...
