The beach along Tautuku Bay stretches for miles around the bay with the frothy waters surfing in along the shore. The area is protected by the Tautuku Peninsula that sits along the coastline of the South Island of New Zealand where one can enjoy the picturesque scenery on the peaceful beach.
Turquoise colored water surrounds the bay and when the tide is inbound the edges around the beach can turn into breaking white water. Lush green hillsides of Florence Hill sit atop Tautuku Beach and from this position the view is spectacular.
The area around Tautuku Bay in Otago, New Zealand is encompassed by wildlife that resides along the Catlins Coast and you can enjoy some of them from Florence Hill. There are also various reserves or walks that you can take to fully enjoy the beach, forests and wetlands around this region.
Starting in the 1830's, there was a whaling station that was set up near the neck of the Tautuku Peninsula and a few years later a port was opened here. ... continue below the picture...
... That port was soon closed down and the sandy beach once again became a beautiful place to visit. There are a few vacation homes that sit out on the peninsula but they are very difficult to reach as there are no roads that lead to them.
