Terry Fox was a great Canadian hero who lost one of his legs to cancer and ran the "Marathon of Hope" across Canada to raise money for cancer. He started his journey in St. John's, Newfoundland and ended in Thunder Bay, Ontario nearly five months later. He covered approximately 5300 kilometers and raised close to $25 million dollars. It was within the twelve months that Terry Fox passed away.A statue of Terry Fox was erected outside the Visitor Information Center in Ottawa, Ontario to honor this hero. Public places, postage stamps and a mountain were also named after this brave man. Every year, many Canadian Provinces host a Terry Fox run in his memory and thousands of people run to continue to raise funds for a cure for cancer.Statue of Terry Fox (1958-1981) outside the Visitor Information Centre in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.
