The name toi toi, which comes from Maori language, is applied to a native plant of New Zealand which is similar to pampas grass. It is often used in landscaping for decoration and to fill gaps. It is a fairly hardy plant which can e grown along the coast or inland in most parts of New Zealand.
In this picture, the town of Kaikoura has used the toi toi plant for decoration in a garden along the coast.
