San Gimignano, a small medieval walled town in the Province of Siena is located within the larger Tuscany Region of Italy.
The town of San Gimignano is famous for its medieval architecture and tall towers all of which have become major tourist attractions in the town.
Tuscany is considered to have been the birth place of the Italian Renaissance movement, which includes architecture, painting and literature. The region of Tuscany was also the birthplace of Dante Alighieri, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Botticelli, some of whose most famous works can now be seen across Tuscany today.
