The town of San Gimignano is located in the Province of Siena, which is itself located in the Region of Tuscany in Italy.
In Itlay, a Province refers to an area made of many municipalities, and then several provinces combined make up a Region. There are 110 provinces in Italy, Siena being one of them.
The capital city of the Siena Province is the town of Siena. The Province has 36 municipalities and a population of around 253,000 people.
The area is very lush and green, and also very hilly. Most residents are employed in an agricultural field or in the silk culture. The white wine known as Chianti is produced here, although not exclusively.
San Gimignano is one of the principle towns in the region.
