A majority of the main roads and the different train station pick up and drop offs in this picture look fairly clear but at times these mountain passes are piled high with snow. Driving in Switzerland in the winter can make it very difficult for cars and the train is a simple means of getting around.Switzerland receives a vast amount of snow in the winter which can come in small flurries here or there and then suddenly a storm moves in and you are in the midst of white out conditions. This train station is located at one of the higher elevations of the Swiss Alps which is between Oberwald and Realp and named the Furka Pass. Driving looks fairly safe at this point in time but that can change very fast and many people would rather drive their cars on to the Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn and remain safe in their travels.Not too many cars are aboard the train on this day, but at the same time on the next day it could be fairly busy. ... continue below the picture...

Information signs will point you in the right direction to load onto this vehicle train.The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn is more expensive than driving but it is well worth it in time and safety when the passes are blanketed with snow. The train runs all year as some locals and tourists like to travel this way in the summer to get a different perspective of the lush green scenery of the Swiss Alps.
