During the annual Tulip Festival, Commissioners Park is transformed into a feast for the eyes with an array of colorful blooms making travel to Ottawa, Canada a spectacular event in May. Ottawa was chosen by Queen Victoria as Canada's capital because of its safe distance from the American border as well as it's close proximity to east Canada (Quebec) and West Canada. Tulips were a gift to the Canadian people from the Netherlands for providing Holland's royal family safe haven during World War Two.
