The tulip is a plant of the genus Tulipa, in the lily family. As this tulip picture shows, they are large showy flowers which display 6 petals. The tulip is a bulbous plant. As the tulip requires a cold winter season to grow, it cannot be grown in the open in more tropical climates. I had a lot of fun capturing images of tulips at the Cullens Gardens & Miniature Village in Whitby Ontario, Canada.
Note: as of January 2006 the Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village in Whitby, Ontario has closed permanently.
