These types of clouds threaten a stormy evening as the last remaining light from the sun fades into the distance over the Inyo Mountains near Bishop, California. Across the horizon the darkness begins to take over the rest of the California sky and nights like these are ideal for storm watchers and photographers.There are many types of clouds that are seen on different days near Bishop and across California. Sunny days throughout California bring in two types of Cirrocumulus clouds as well as Cirrus and Cirrostratus clouds which are all relatively thin and wispy.Two other types of clouds that are a little thicker that could bring in a few drops of rain are Altocumulus and Altostratus. The dark and heavy looking clouds are the last type of clouds which are known as Stratus or Towering Cumulus which pronounce thunderstorms and heavy rain.There are variations to all these types of clouds but these one hanging around the Inyo Mountains near the town of Bishop in California are definitely Towering Cumulus. ... continue below the picture...
