Since the beginning of the 16th century the Tyrolean Castle of Presule has watched over this plain of the Dolomite Mountains in the South Tyrol region of Italy. In the shadow of one of the best known mountains in the Dolomites, Mount Sciliar the Castello di Presule, as it is known in Italian, is an impressive Gothic style edifice.The date 1517 can be seen over the entranceway of the Presule Castle which is when the building was completed. The original Castle or fortress dates back before 1279, when it was recorded as 'Castrum praesile'. The Lords of Vols/Fie, who were ministers for the Bishopric of Brixen, were commissioned to build the fortress.
