The Val d'Aran is a small valley in the northwestern part of Catalonia, Spain and is one of the highest valleys of the Pyrenees. The beautiful green meadows throughout the Val d Aran in Catalonia have flowers blossoming as far as you can see when hiking in this area.
A good portion of the Val d'Aran is made up of Catalan territory on the north side of the Pyrenees and is the only part of Catalonia, Spain where the water drains into the Atlantic Ocean. Up until 1948 when the Vielha tunnel was built, the north side of the Val d'Aran had no direct communication with the south side during the cold winter months.
