A harsh, untamed wilderness best describes the Westland National Park which is home to a variety of native birds and mammals. The flightless Kiwi bird forages for food on the forest floor while Tui's, Wood Pigeons and the cheeky Kea fly through the canopy.
At first glance the landscape of the Westland National Park looks harsh with jagged rock faces and steep slopes, but on closer inspection it is punctuated with splashes of colour from various native flowering plants.
