Holding several records in the animal and natural world, the sperm whale can lay claim to being the largest toothed whale and therefore the largest carnivore in the world. It also holds the record for having the largest and heaviest brain of any animal in the world.
Originally the sperm whale was the main attraction in the town of Kaikoura, and also the main focus of the lucrative tourist business in the region. The whales now share that spot light with dusky dolphins, seals and sea birds which also inhabit the waters here.
