Most people find that a Black Bear in the wild will turn and head in the other direction when they come in contact with humans. This large black bear does not seem to have a very friendly expression upon his face when he met up with us and our large camera equipment in the wilderness of Ontario, Canada.
Black bears can grunt and make strange noises when they are relaxed and do not feel threatened but if they are frightened, their noises will become much louder and their facial expressions can change dramatically. When fully grown, a male black bear can weigh up to 500 pounds and females about 300 pounds which will vary depending on which season you are in. This bear looks fairly well fed and the best thing one can do if you encounter a black bear in the wild is to back up slowly while keeping an eye on the bear at all times.

This area in Ontario, Canada is still very much forest and a fair amount of wild black bear can be found in this region.
