Wind turbines spin and operate near the town of Zahara de los Atunes along the Costa de la Luz in the Province of Cadiz, in Andalusia, Spain. Wind energy is becoming increasingly popular as a way to create sustainable energy as the world slowly runs out of fossil fuels. Countries started to realize that if they didn't come up with alternative energy sources, that they wouldn't have the means to sustain their country with energy for the years to come. So they had to formulate a plan and think of another sustainable energy source.
Wind is a popular choice for areas of countries that get enough wind to turn these turbines to transform kinetic energy into mechanical energy. That mechanical energy is then converted in to electricity. ... continue below the picture...
Wind machines were used as early as 200 BC in Persia and the Roman Empire adopted them in 250 BC. They were very primitive forms of wind turbines compared to today but they were still very effective and the models they have today are based on these very early designs.
Wind turbines are now a fixture on many landscapes across the world and it is not uncommon to see them twirling in high winds up on hills. There has been some controversy surrounding them, but for the most part, people seem to support them and what they can do for our planet.
