In the high mountains of Yellowstone National Park in the United States you will find these hot springs which can reach temperatures in excess of 400 degrees farenheit. The snowfall or rainfall off the mountains begins to percolate through layers of porous rock that eventually breaks through the cracks of the earth's surface.The colder water will meet up with the hot rocks and begin to heat up and soon the temperatures of this water gets to a point that reaches well beyond boiling point. Because of the natural pressures pushing down on the water it always stays in a liquid form. It is similar to that of a pressure cooker.As the heated water rises through its process and makes its way to the top, the temperature of the water drops as it reaches the surface and gives us the hot springs.
