The village of Morella in the El Maestrat region of Valencia in Spain is surrounded by an ancient stone wall two and a half kilometers in length. Above the village, the castle is still an impressive sight even though it is now mainly ruins.
The ancient wall of Morella has been the site of many battles over the centuries, and has seven entrance gates at strategic points along the wall. The Morella castle has been damaged and rebuilt by many invaders, Romans, Iberians, Arabs and Christians. The village of Morella in Valencia, is one of the oldest continuously inhabited places in Spain.
There are three small museums located in the towers of the ancient stone wall and the climb to the castle is quite strenuous but the view from the top is well worth it. After absorbing the history of Morella and viewing all the interesting grounds where the castle stands, visitors can enjoy local food in one of the charming restaurants in the village. ... continue below the picture...
