A plaque marking the 40th anniversary (August 9, 1972) of the opening of the Welland Ship Canal to world shipping on August 6, 1932, at the St Catharines Museum in Ontario, Canada. The opening of the canal increased the economy and resources for many cities and countries around the world.The large bulk carrier ship in the background is in Lock 3 and this is where visitors can view how a ship maneuvers through the Welland Canal System.
