The main road in Banff, Banff Avenue, is lit up with street lights as it leads towards Cascade Mountain (that stands at 2998 metres/9836 feet high). This scene was taken at dusk during the winter and gives the picture a magical quality with the headlights of cars giving a warm glow. This view was taken from the grounds of the Parks Canada Administration Building that is located right in the town of Banff in the Canadian Rocky Mountains, Alberta Canada.
This is not only a popular and very beautiful area, but also one that forms part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site, meaning it is an area that has been chosen to be protected and preserved for future generations.
Banff Avenue features many hotels along with numerous bars, restaurants, cafes and any place that you could want to put your feet up after a long day in the mountains. ... continue below the picture...
... There is also plenty of shopping and of course, tourist souvenir shops. It can be quite crowded at the height of the tourist season - whether winter or summer, but is well worth a visit. As dusk falls in the Rocky Mountains the Banff Avenue seems to come to life as it has quite a lively night life. Cascade Mountain is the constant companion of Banff and epitomizes the scenery of the Rocky Mountains.
