Alberta has cowboys and dinosaurs, oil and ovals. From metropolises to mountains, Alberta has it all and if it's got it, you can probably find it at the West Edmonton Mall. The WEM is the world's largest shopping center, complete with a hotel and amusement parks.
But Alberta is as much for the outdoors or history-minded visitors as it is for marathon-shoppers. World-famous Banff National Park high in the Canadian Rockies is Canada's original national park. Jasper National Park has icy glaciers, hot springs, and more than a thousand kilometers of hiking trails. At the Royal Tyrell Museum near Drumheller in Southern Alberta, travel back in time and visit the dinosaurs that once called the Canadian Badlands home.
The mountains and badlands may be geological wonders, but the cowboys stick to the prairies. Here, cattle ranches and towns are a throwback to early European settlement.
