An historic event which took place at the Cave and Basin in 1883 was the catalyst which lead to the formation of the Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Subsequently the Cave and Basin was designated a National Historic Site in recognition of its place and significance in the history of Banff and the creation of a National Parks system in Canada.
Informative displays and exhibits explain the geology of the Cave and Basin which sits at the base of Sulphur Mountain in the town of Banff, along with the history of the parks formation.
