As with so many reservoirs, when Lac de Ste Croix was developed a little village was drowned, but when the water is low the top of the village bell tower can be seen. A village was rebuilt higher up on a hill, but one wonders what the original little houses and streets looked like.Visitors coming from the east end of the Gorges du Verdon will get the full rugged beauty of the Verdon River as the canyon is about 21 kilometers from east to west and varies from 263 meters to 750 meters in depth and 6 meters to 1605 meters in width.There are roads on both the South and North rims of the Gorges du Verdon in the Alpes de Haute, Provence in France, but they wind through the canyon with hair-raising curves.
