The Ponte alla Carraia which crosses the Arno river in Florence, Tuscany in Italy has had a tumultuous past. The foundation stone was laid in 1218 but in 1274 flood waters destroyed the bridge. The rebuilt Ponte alla Carraia was again washed away, but the present bridge, completed in 1337 has stood the test of time, and at sunset looks quite romantic.
