The Calgary Tower was opened to the public in 1968 and is a free standing observation tower that is 191 meters tall (627 ft) weighing 10,900 tons and 60% of the tower is under ground. A joint venture between Marathon Realty Company Limited and Husky Oil decided to build the tower to celebrate Canada?s centennial in 1967 and was part of an urban renewal plan. It was originally called the Husky Tower but was renamed the Calgary Tower in 1971.
The Saddledome is a stadium which plays host to many premier events. As at 2012 it is called the Scotiabank Saddledome. It has been open and operated for 30 years.
