In total, the Purakaunui Falls drop 20 metres (65 feet) over three tiers. The waterfall is situated along the Purakaunui River which flows out into the Pacific Ocean through the scenic Catlin's forest on the southeast coast of the South Island of New Zealand.
The Catlin's Highway is a scenic route through the Catlin's district which has an abundance of places to visit such as the pristine Purakaunui Falls and many other waterfalls which are accessible via walking trails through lush native bush.
