The Esplanade Riel Bridge spans the Red River and connects downtown Winnipeg with St. Boniface - an area in the city, which is mostly home to the Franco-Manitoban community. This pedestrian bridge also has vehicular partner called the Provencher Bridge.
This unique bridge in downtown Winnipeg is one of only a few in the world that actually has a restaurant located on the bridge, the Salisbury House. The view from this restaurant is uninterrupted, as it is located on the bridge, so it does not have any other buildings to contend with and gives diners a look at the intricate construction of the bridge as well.

The Red River forms the border between the US states of Minnesota and North Dakota, before continuing into Manitoba, where it flows under the Esplanade Riel Bridge, and finally empties into Lake Winnipeg.
