Many high rise buildings and towers surround you, as well as the easily recognizable bison sculpture in the open air Frederick W Hill Mall in the centre of Regina, a city in Saskatchewan, Canada. This area is an open air pedestrian only mall, where people can visit and shop and see the art galleries and enjoy the outdoor festivities, especially in the summer time. This sculpture is now part of the landscape of this open air mall, and bison are a common animal on the Prairie Plains, so this is a dedication to these great animals on the open range.
This sculpture pictured here is one of three statues in this area and they are cut by laser, and designed by Joe Fafard. They are dedicated to the citizens of the town of Regina and were paid for by the Regina business community. ... continue below the picture...
... The three of them were designed in memory of Paul Hanley; they are well known landmarks in this area of the city.
This new pedestrian mall and this sculpture was part of an improvement project to the downtown district of Regina to make it not only more pedestrian friendly by taking away all the cars, but also to attract more people to the city as it has a lot to offer and is still growing as a prominent Canadian metropolis.
