The history of this Cathedral can be traced back to 1945, when it was decided by a number of people that a new parish was needed in Winnipeg - in the north end of the city. The site that this current Ukrainian Orthodox Church sits on was purchased May 16th 1946.
It wasn't until September 11, 1949, that the site was blessed and construction was able to begin for the new grand building. In June 1952, the basement of the Cathedral was officially opened to the public, and the Church continued to collect money and donations so that the rest of the building could be finished.
The Cathedral was officially opened July 8, 1962, by the Primate (the highest order of Bishop in Canada) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, Metropolitan Ilarion (Ivan Ohienko). ... continue below the picture...
... The facade on the front depicts the Holy Trinity and was installed for the Millennium of Ukrainian Orthodoxy in 1988 and was blessed by Metropolitan Wasyly.
