A species of yucca plant, the Joshua Tree is prolific in Joshua Tree National Park which is situated in the Mojave Desert of California where it thrives in the sandy soil.
This particular Joshua Tree is firmly grounded beside a series of rock formations which look similar to miniature hoodoos. The blue cloudless sky above offers an excellent background to the tree and shows its leaves which are hosted in spiral bunches at the end of the branches.
The Joshua Tree does flower however, it does needs a winter freeze before flowering in spring.
Joshua Tree National Park is among the only places in North America to see the Joshua Tree and in this particular setting where it is surrounded by interesting rock formations and desert grass.
