Known as the jumping cactus, these prickly plants of the desert are named so for good reason. With the slightest touch from a passing hiker or animal, this cactus will attach itself to clothing or fur.
Other names this cactus is known as are: hanging chain cholla, teddy bear cholla, chain fruit cholla and several others.
The jumping cactus thrives under the harsh desert sun in the arid soils of the Mojave Desert. In Joshua Tree National Park there are large "forests" of the cactus which look impressive as they stretch out for many hectares.
