The city of Siena in Tuscany, Italy is the capital of the province of Siena and has been inhabited since at least 70 AD when it was first documented, although probably Siena was a settlement 500 years earlier, during the Etruscan era.
Considered one of the loveliest cities in Tuscany, Siena is full of outstanding architecture and art from medieval times, but the interesting, lifelike artwork or scultpure on the side of a building is a work of a more modern time. The subtle colours blend well with the brick wall, and the poignant theme makes viewers wonder if the pale girl is waiting for someone, maybe she is lonely, shy or just watching the world go by.
The historic city of Siena in Tuscany, Italy was built on three hills on the site of an ancient hill-fort with the Piazza del Campo being the city centre. ... continue below the picture...
... The Piazza is shaped like a shell and the city hall, Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia can be found there. The view of the city from the Torre (tower) is outstanding. The Italian Romanesque Duomo, built during the 12th to 14th centuries is another landmark which should not be missed. Also not to be missed is this beautiful lifelike sculpture which is situated near one of the entrances to the city.
