Wall murals provide an outside gallery for visitors to view throughout the town of Chemainus on Vancouver Island, BC. Once a quiet town, the artistic designs of the murals now brings in thousands of visitors to Vancouver Island on a yearly basis to see the amazing paintings.The year 1982 brought about the beginning of the murals and now there are thirty-seven that adorn a variety of buildings. Each year a new mural is painted that adds another page to the historic saga of Chemainus, British Columbia.Each of the murals tell a story of the history of the town of Chemainus and they are all within walking distance in the waterfront area of the town. A walking map is available that explains each of the murals in detail and the artist that created it.Chemainus is still considered a small town as the population is around 4,000 but the murals have now put the community back on the map.
