This park is part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it is a protected area of land.

Admiring it from afar while taking a break from snowshoeing is a much safer way to enjoy the scenery of Mistaya Canyon. This area is an enjoyable area in which to hike in the summer, but in the winter it turns into a winter wonderland scene filled with ice and snow and is a popular area for snowshoe exploration. Many tourists come here because it is easily accessible from the Icefields Parkway, but still makes you feel as if you are in the heart of the Alberta wilderness.
