Many farmers nowadays just don't have the time to cultivate their crops by hand so they need to use more modern technology to help them cut their time down to allow them more control over a wider range of crops. Machinery like tractors help modern farmers do this, just like this farmer is spraying his crops with a tractor rather than by hand near Rockglen, Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan is an open flat province and as a result, farming is one of the most common industries. The soil is easy to work, there are different kinds of soil, and many different kinds of crops grow easily in that climate. Being so flat and open allows for lots of sun and oxygen to get to the crops.
Spraying crops with fertilizers like this farmer is doing here helps the crops to grow and also fight disease which would prohibit them from growing to their full potential. Fertilizer can be natural or made from chemicals and it is up to the farmer to decide what kind they want to use on their crop. ... continue below the picture...
... Chemical fertilizer can harm the surrounding environment so most farmers are switching to natural (organic) fertilizer as it's also healthier for the crop itself.
